Please remember, these are just ideas of activities you can do. Everyone is different, so please don’t worry if you can’t complete all of the activities. Also, if you are unable to print out work, please just answer the questions in your workbooks as best you can.
Please note, you may have seen in the news that the Government are providing daily lesson plans for each Year Group, delivered by ‘The Oak Academy.’ The BBC are also providing daily online lessons for each Year Group. You may want to dip in and out of these to supplement the work on the website, if you so wish. Remember, these are just suggestions for further ideas, so please do not worry if you don’t use them.

READING
Continue to read on a daily basis your books from home.
I hope you are managing to have a go at some of the activities on the Summer Reading Challenge.🌞 🌞 🌞
PHONICS ACROSS THE WEEK
Allow 10- 15 minutes a day for these activities.
Mrs Kulczycki’s Group– please access the activities Pond Life Plurals and Planetary Plurals. Make sure you are logged in to Phonics Play using the following details:
Username – march20
Password – home
Remember to watch the demonstrations first, before you play the games.
https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/6/pond-life-plurals
https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/6/planetary-plurals
Then it is back to more common exception words!! This game is similar to spooky spellings but uses little birds instead!! 🐤🐤It revises the spelling of the Year 2 common exception words, plus some other tricky words using the Look, Cover, Write, Check approach. Make sure you click on Year 2 and select the books 7, 8 and 9 for this week.
http://www.ictgames.com/littleBirdSpelling/
Mrs Joyce’s Group– You have completed the revision of the common exception spellings. Great job!! Now try the following spelling activities revising possessive apostrophes. Click on the link, then click on the spelling tiles (free) box and work through the various activities for that pattern.
https://spellingframe.co.uk/spelling-rule/103/26-The-possessive-apostrophe
Alternatively there is a game which practises the same words as above, but in more of a game format if you prefer. When you are on the page which says spelling tiles (free) instead of clicking on that box, scroll down a little and click on the free game ‘Spelling Mini Golf.’ NB The free game tends to change at random, so it will be whichever one says ‘Free Game.’ I have only just realised that it changes every now and again!! I last checked on Sunday evening, but it might be different on Monday!! The game will always match the spelling rule that is being practised on that page. (I hope!!)
There is also a set of 18 mini games on BBC Bitesize to help you with your Year 2 phonics skills in an activity called ‘Small Town Superheroes.’ There are different levels of difficulty. It is really useful revision for you and you can work on it over a few days if you wish. Please concentrate on the following this week: 1) Same spelling, different sounds 2) Simple sounds and 3) Blending sounds. If these activities do not come up straight away on the map of the town, use the large arrow that is to the left/right/bottom of the screen to navigate your way round and you should find them!!
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zd63xyc/articles/zncgvk7
Remember, at any point you can always access any of the activities on PhonicsPlay if you wish.

4 + 14 + 4 +8 = 30
42 -12 = 30
3 x 10 = 30
46-16 =30
Please include some word problems of your own e.g There were 6 pots with 5 pencils in each, how many pencils are there altogether?
NB IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TARGET NUMBER THAT IS ABSOLUTELY FINE 😃😃

MATHS
Warm up. Can you count in tens forwards to 200 and then backwards in tens from 200 to zero?
Today we are going to practise counting coins over a pound. Please watch the following video and have your coins from last week to hand. The video will also show how to count notes as well as coins. Parents please note, the teacher on the video separates the pounds and pence using the word ‘and’. This is fine for today, although tomorrow the children will be using the decimal point to separate pounds and pence. There are some questions to complete along the way.

It’s time to start your story today! Use your planning sheet from yesterday to help you. I want you to spend two lessons doing this, as hopefully it will be quite a long piece of writing. So please do not rush it. You have plenty of time.I will give you your WILF criteria (What I‘m Looking For) below, so you know what to include in your story. Make sure you give your story a title.
You can either write your story straight into your homework books or use the sheet provided below.
HISTORY
As we have discovered, Queen Victoria ruled our country for 63 years. During her reign which became known as ‘The Victorian Age’ ,many amazing inventions were created. Watch this Horrible Histories video to find out a few of them! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9g6kWoMHHs
Have a look at the pictures on the Victorian inventions sheet below, cut them out and stick them in chronological order on the second ‘grid’ sheet. If you have a long enough piece of paper, you might want to stick the pictures in a long horizontal line to give you a better idea of a timeline.

I know how much you are all missing your friends and this can make us feel sad. You may be missing school friends, or friends who live on your road, or friends that live a long way away. Let’s watch this clip from Toy Story to remember our lovely and special friends.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMN4JZ8crVY Sing along if you can!
I know it is possible to contact friends on our phones, which is fantastic, but there is still something special about getting a card or a letter through the post. It would be lovely if you could send a card to someone you are missing just to let them know how special they are. It would really brighten their day! There are some templates below, or you could design one of your own. If you don’t manage to post it, you could always keep it somewhere safe until you see them again.

FRIDAY 1st MAY
MATHS
We are going back to number work today. First of all, warm up with some addition and subtraction sums on BBC Bitesize Karate Cats https://www.bbc.co.uk/games/embed/karate-cats-2?exitGameUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fbbc.com%2Fbitesize%2Farticles%2Fzf4sscw Then just like you did a few weeks ago with the number 20, you are going to see how many ways you can make the answer 25. Use lots of maths skills e.g addition, subtraction and multiplication. Here are a few examples:
19 + 6 = 25
10 + 10 + 4 +1 = 25
29 – 4 = 25
3 x 5 + 10 = 25
Please include some word problems of your own e.g There were 30 birds sitting in the tree and a cat scared 5 away. There were 25 left.

Please have a look at this presentation Lesson Presentation The Role Of A Monarch NB Make sure when you open up the powerpoint, click on ‘Enable Editing’ then ensure that the ‘slide show’ tab is open and click ‘From beginning.’
Then, have fun imagining that you were King or Queen for the Day and make a list of sensible rules that you would want people to obey. Use the following sheets or write down your rules in your homework books.

ENGLISH
This week we are going to be looking at one of the stories of the author Anthony Browne. Listen to the story of ‘Willy the Wimp.’https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XULkDsI0v5Q
What do you think of the character of Willy the Wimp? Complete the following activity sheet to describe him.
HISTORY
Today we are going to look at some of the famous kings and queens from history. The presentation has quite a lot of reading in it, so you might need a little help from a grown up. Stop at slide 15 to do the activity below and then check your answers on slide 17. Lesson Presentation Significant British Monarchs
On the activity sheet, you have to put the dates in order on a timeline. Top tip- the first two digits will give you the first clue, so 1744 comes before 1967 on the timeline, just like in ordinary numbers. If you have to decide which is the earliest ,when the first two digits of the date are the same e.g 1876 or 1845, then look at the second two digits – 45 is lower than 76, so 1845 comes before 1876 on the timeline.
Significant British Monarchs Timeline Ordering Activity
Please note this activity consists of two pages. The first is the blank timeline, the second is the cutting sheet. The pictures on the cutting sheet are repeated, so you only need to use the first set of nine pictures from Edward I to Elizabeth I.

MATHS
Mental warm up- practise counting in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s out loud ,as this will help you with today’s activity.
Today we are going to learn how to read scales in ml on measuring containers. Do you remember on Science Day how we used measuring jugs to measure water and washing up liquid to make our bubble mixture?
Watch the following powerpoint and work out how much liquid is in the measuring jugs each time. Take note, it is a little bit like reading a number line. However, the scale might not always count in 1’s. It might count in 1’s, 2’s, 3’s or 10’s, so use the clues that you have to work out what it is counting in. (NB Make sure when you open up the powerpoint, click on ‘Enable Editing’ then ensure that the ‘Slide Show’ tab is open and click ‘From Beginning.’)
Then complete the activity: Measuring In Ml Activity Sheet Remember not to peep at the answers!! You only need to do the first set of questions. For some strange reason the questions and answers are repeated twice!
ENGLISH
Think back to yesterday’s story of Willy the Wimp. I have re-told part of the story in my own words for you to read.
Then complete the sheet below by picking out the grammatical features of the story that I have used. The numbers in brackets tell you how many I want you to find. So for example in the first section of expanded noun phrases you could have ‘small, weak monkey.’ The final box asks you to find a simile. Remember, a simile is where you compare one thing to another e.g He was as slow as a snail. (That one isn’t an example in my story!!)
Grammatical Features In Willy The Wimp Story
HISTORY
Today we will look at the life of Queen Victoria. Please watch the following short film about her life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaSnKaoFjKc Then complete the following activity where you have to fill in the missing words. Most of the answers you will have heard in the film, but there are a couple of things the film does not mention. ART- drawing skills
Next week we are going to be doing some sketches of Queen Victoria. Today I would like you to watch the first section of a video on how to use a pencil for creating light and dark shades.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPEp8dl_TOg
The artist shows us lots of different pencils that are available, but we are just going to use an ordinary school pencil. Watch what he does up to 1 minute and 51 seconds in the video and then create your own shading guide using just one pencil on the template below. You are welcome to watch the rest of the video, but these are skills that you will learn in the Juniors. I had a go too!! (see below)

HOME LEARNING
Hello everyone,
We hope you are all well and coping in these difficult circumstances.
Here is a list of links to sites that we subscribe to and use in the Infants: Website Links For Infants The list also came home via ParentMail 23.3.20.
As some of you may already be aware, children up and down the country have been drawing and painting rainbows and writing colourful messages to put in their windows at home in order to bring everyone together in these times of isolation and uncertainty. If possible, we are asking each of our little Buckstones superstars to do the same, if you have not already done so 🙂 We will also be making our own rainbows in school – keep your eyes peeled! https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/parenting/families-painting-rainbows-windows-spread-17964109
If you get the chance, do remember to email us some photos of how you are spending your time at home (email details on letter dated 23.3.20) so we can start to put these on the website. 🙂
Here are some activities for Year 2 children to access week commencing 23rd March.

GEOGRAPHY
Continuing our St. Lucia work, we would like the children to design the front of a postcard from St. Lucia. It may be one large picture, filling the whole of the piece of paper, or it may be several pictures showing features of the island, possibly including the Piton Mountains, Pigeon Island, the Sulphur Springs, Rainforest Adventure, the capital city of Castries, the many stunning beaches and of course the St.Lucian flag. All of the children should be familiar with these features.
You may find these photographs useful. Photographs Of St. Lucia
Later in the week, we will ask the children to actually write a postcard from St. Lucia, imagining that they were on holiday there.
P.E
Go to Cosmic Kids Yoga on You Tube for a ‘Deep Sea’ adventure with Jaime. Let the children imagine they are deep sea diving off the coast of St. Lucia!!
Above all else, have fun with your learning and take care.
WEDNESDAY 25th March
MATHS
Go on a 3D shape hunt around your house! Make a list of at least 10 objects you find and write down what 3D shape they are e.g microwave = cuboid. As a warm up activity you might want to look at the following powerpoint presentation. T N 804 3D Shape Photo Powerpoint
NB Make sure when you open up the powerpoint, click on ‘Enable Editing’ then ensure that the ‘slide show’ tab is open and click ‘From beginning.’ This will make the powerpoint interactive and allow you to reveal the ‘answers.’
ENGLISH
Invent a new dinosaur!!! Give it a name. Draw it and add labels around the picture, showing the different parts of the body. Use expanded noun phrases e.g
a huge, pink frill
a long, flexible tail
red, fiery eyes
ART- the St. Lucian Artist Jean Baptiste
Have a look at some of the art work shown here.Jean Baptiste Pictures
There are 8 pictures over 2 pages. If you cannot see that whilst using a mobile device, you must make sure you are viewing them in the ‘print layout’ view and not the ‘mobile view’.
These are pictures by an artist called Jean Baptiste who lives in the Caribbean. He loves to draw rainforest animals and birds, as well as ocean creatures. Try and copy one of his pictures as carefully as you can. Pay close attention to all the details and fill your paper from edge to edge and top to bottom, just like he does.
Take your time with the drawing and tomorrow you can colour/ paint/ pastel!!!
P.E
Type ‘PE with Joe’ into Google. Joe Wicks as you may have heard is being the nations PE teacher every morning live at 9am. If you miss the live stream at 9am or want to do it later, don’t worry, the daily ‘You Tube’ stream saves so you can still do it at any time. If you add the day of the week in to the search eg, PE with Joe Wednesday, then you will find the Wednesday stream.
THURSDAY 26th March
Make sure you have your spelling test today. Good luck everyone!
MATHS
As a warm up play ‘Maths Jungle’ Make 20 https://www.twinkl.co.uk/go/resource/T-GO-02-number-bonds-1-to-20
Think of as many ways as you can of making the answer 20. We have had a go at this before, so see if you can think of lots more ways! Use lots of maths skills e.g addition, subtraction and multiplication.
7 + 13= 20
4 + 4 + 4 +8 = 20
32 -12 = 20
2 x 10 = 20
36-16 =20
Please include some word problems of your own e.g There were 4 bowls with 5 goldfish in each, how many goldfish are there altogether?
